BBQ And Barrels Kicks Off WEVSC Rodeo

The White Earth Valley Saddle Club rodeo grounds were busy last weekend as the 69th annual rodeo kicked off on Friday, June 12 with the queen pageant and the annual rib cookoff. The evening wrapped up with a barrel racing competition.

There were eight teams that started their morning cooking premium baby back ribs. The money for the ribs was donated by Chevron, with the ribs purchased from Myers Meats. Each of the teams were looking for bragging rights for the best ribs. Teams set up their smokers and got to work looking for votes, not only from the judges, but also for the people’s choice.

This year’s judges selected the Chevron team for first place and Shin Dig with a Pig for second place. Other teams cooking were the Sons of Liberty, Tioga Fire Department, Stanley Fire Department, Babbitt’s, Woodbury Custom Rolling and United Quality.
The people’s choice award went to the Tioga Fire Department, with Shin Dig with a Pig taking second.
