Wrestlers Host Ryan, In Action At Tournaments

The Blue Jay varsity boys’ wrestlers were in action last week when they hosted Bishop Ryan in a dual on Thursday, Jan. 15 and then traveled to Rugby for the Panther Booster Tournament on Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17. The Blue Jays’ girls’ wrestlers were in action in Hazen at the Coal Country Clash on Saturday, Jan. 17. Other events on the schedule were impacted by weather conditions.
Stanley vs. Bishop Ryan
The Blue Jays hosted the Bishop Ryan Lions in dual action on Thursday, Jan. 15. This dual only saw four matches wrestled. The Blue Jays claimed the 42 to 4 victory.
At 107 points, Bo Johnson won by fall at :46 over Braxton Mogren.
At 114 pounds, Chase Brown won by forfeit with Ryan open.
At 127 pounds, Trent Bohrer lost on a 14-0 major decision to Sam Haverstock.
At 133 pounds, Cohen Bell won by forfeit with Ryan open.
At 139 pounds, Regan Gustafson won by forfeit with Ryan open.
At 145 pounds, Brayden Fritel won by forfeit with Ryan open.
At 152 pounds, Dane Dunham won by fall at 4:39 over Nolan Braun.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran won by fall at :36 over Jacob Silva.
Both teams were open at 121, 160, 172, 189 and 215 pounds.
Panther Booster Tournament
The Blue Jay varsity boys’ wrestlers were in action at the Panther Booster Tournament in Rugby on Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17.
Velva took home the team title with 213.5 points, followed by Williams County with 170, Devils Lake with 141, Stanley with 133 and Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm rounding out the top five with 130.5.
Individual results for the Blue Jays were as follows:
At 114 pounds, Chase Brown placed fifth. He won his first round match by fall at 1:14 over Zach Krueger of Central Cass, but lost in quarterfinals to Cash Gerhardt of Linton by fall at 1:57. He came back to win his next match by fall at :33 over Brody Pelton of Hillsboro-Central Valley and followed that up with a 4-0 decision over Braden Brossart of Rugby. In the consolation semifinals, he lost on a 10-1 major decision to Wyatt Schaff of DLB. In the fifth place match, he won on a 7-3 decision over Kruze Martell of Turtle Mountain to take fifth.
At 133 pounds, Cohen Bell won the championship. After a first round bye, he won his next match by fall at 1:10 over Zander Dovenmuehler of Hillsboro-Central Valley. In quarterfinals, he won on a 9-0 major decision over Kayden Houle of Northern Lights and followed that up with a 9-0 major decision over Paul Melin of Kenmare in semifinals. In the championship match, he won on a 15-2 major decision over Corban Sorenson of Watford City to take home first place.
At 139 pounds, Regan Gustafson placed second. He won his first round match on a 15-0 tech fall at 1:20 over Jackson Klecker of Hillsboro-Central Valley. In quarterfinals, he won by fall at 5:58 over Landon Wallette of Turtle Mountain and followed that up with a 21-5 tech fall over Lucas Soli of Velva in semifinals. In the championship match, he lost by fall at 4:45 to Bode Henderson of Northern Lights to take second.
At 145 pounds, Brayden Fritel placed sixth. After a first round bye, he lost his next round match on a 6-5 decision to Levi Jensen of Williams County. He came back in the consolation rounds to win his first match by fall at 1:47 over Camren Simenson of Central Cass, and followed that up with a win by fall at 3:25 over Austin Davis of Kenmare, a win by fall at 4:29 over Maddix Moch of May-Port-CG, and a 14-9 decision win over Levi Jensen of Williams County. In the consolation semifinal match, he lost on an 18-1 tech fall at 4:47 to Riggin Sand of Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm. In the fifth place match, he lost by fall at 4:16 to Tucker Bennett of Devils Lake to take sixth.
At 152 pounds, Dane Dunham took eighth place. He won his first round match on a 17-0 tech fall at 4:58 over Channing Davis of Northern Lights, but lost his next match by fall at :44 to Ray Trottier of Turtle Mountain. After a bye in the next round, he came back to win on an 11-7 decision over Brogen Erickson of May-Port-CG and followed that up with a 14-11 win in sudden victory over Gage Holter of Kenmare. In the next round, he lost by fall at 5:11 to Ray Trottier of Turtle Mountain. In the seventh place match, he lost by fall at 3:17 to Will Langford of Watford City to take eighth place.
At 160 pounds, Colter Fladeland placed seventh. He lost his first round match on a 6-2 decision to Raider Barstad of Velva. He came back in the next round to win by fall at 1:43 over Emiliano Castillo of Linton and followed that up with a 9-5 decision win over Gideon Duckworth of Watford City. In the next round, he lost on an 8-5 sudden victory overtime decision to Andy Pulak of Grafton. In the seventh place match, he won by fall at 5:18 over David Wilkie of Turtle Mountain to place seventh.
At 172 pounds, Kane Reep placed third. After a first round bye, he won his quarterfinal match by fall at 3:46 over Walker Sheldon of Williams County. In semifinals, he lost by fall at 2:51 to Lexton Smith of Velva. He came back in the consolation semifinal to win on a 16-1 tech fall over Ayden Peterson of Central Cass. In the third place match he won by medical forfeit over Benet Giesler of Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm to take third place.
At 189 pounds, Asher Batteiger placed seventh. He won his first round match by fall at 2:17 over Sam Schneider of Central Cass, but lost his quarterfinal match by fall at 2:31 to Eli Buee of DLB. He came back in the next round to win by fall at 1:54 over John Luke Pederson of May-Port-CG, but then lost his next match by fall at 5:06 to Noah Werner of Velva. In the seventh place match, he won on a 10-0 major decision over Payton De Los Santos of Northern Lights to take seventh.
At 215 pounds, Coda Fladeland lost his first round match by fall at :43 to Ivan Carruth of Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm. After a bye in the next round, he won his next match on a 9-0 major decision over Corey Hoff-Wald of Linton and followed that up with a win by fall at 3:14 over Jens Twedt of May-Port-CG. In the next round, he lost by fall at 5:04 to Kael Martin of Turtle Mountain to end his tournament action.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran won his first match by fall at 1:00 over Jeremiah White of Devils Lake. In quarterfinals, he lost on a 17-4 major decision to Sam Inman of Watford City and then lost his next match by fall at 2:57 to Rosin Keplin of Turtle Mountain to end his tournament action.
Coal Country Clash
The Blue Jay girls were in action at the Coal Country Clash in Hazen on Saturday, Jan. 17. Turtle Mountain took home first place as a team with 192 points, followed by Bismarck Century with 134.5, Bismarck High School with 133, Harvey-Wells County with 113.5 and Williston rounding out the top five with 101. Stanley was 15th with 37 team points.
At 106 pounds, Kandice Belstad lost her first round match by fall at 1:41 to Avarie Jacobson of Rugby and her next match on a 15-0 tech fall at 1:48 to Alli Radenz of Bismarck Century to end her tournament action.
At 118 pounds, Kimber Fritel placed fourth. She won her first round match by fall at :56 over Addi Mack of Rugby and followed that up with a quarterfinal win on a 10-6 decision over Autumn Huber of New Salem. In semifinals, she lost by fall at 2:20 to Brennli Wilkens of Beulah/Hazen. She won her consolation semifinal match by fall at :37 over Emmaria Cullinan of Bismarck Legacy. In the third place match, she lost by fall at 3:20 to Autumn Huber of New Salem to take fourth.
At 124 pounds, McKenzie Bohrer lost her first round match by fall at :53 to Lyla Roehrich of Williston and her next match by fall at :57 to Kaylee Keplin of Turtle Mountain to end her tournament action.
At 130 pounds, Aubree Bunner lost her first round match by fall at 4:25 to Alicia Asongkeng of Bismarck Legacy. After a bye in the next round, she lost her next match by fall at 2:58 to Aubrey Bartz of Harvey-Wells County to end her tournament action.
At 136 pounds, Mckenna Jones placed fifth. After a first round bye, she lost her quarterfinal match by fall at :41 to Anna Engwicht of New Salem. She had a bye in the next round, and then won her next match by fall at 1:02 over Paige Elliott of Beulah/Hazen. She lost her consolation semifinal by fall at 4:49 to Chloe Bartz of Harvey-Wells County. In the fifth place match, she won by fall at 3:13 over Gabriella Huffaker of Bismarck Century to take fifth.
At 142 pounds Natalia Rodriguez lost her first match by fall at 1:00 to Hope Mittleider of Linton-HMB and her next match by fall at 1:13 to Ashley Camacho of Williston to end her tournament action.
At 148 pounds, Inaani Wilson placed fifth. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at :24 to Madison Reems of Bismarck High School. She came back to win her next match by fall at 1:33 over Mickey Tiedemann of Hettinger. In the consolation semifinal, she lost by fall at 1:01 to Makinley Lazorenko of Killdeer. In the fifth place match, she won by fall at 2:30 over Janessa Nelson of Williston.
At 170 pounds, Nevaeh Whiteshield lost her first match by fall at 5:22 to Kynzlee Christopherson of Bismarck High School and her next match by fall at :21 to Ivy Griffin of Bismarck Legacy to end her tournament action.
