Wrestlers Hit The Mat To Open Season

The Blue Jay wrestlers opened their season last week with a dual against the DLB Lakers and then action at tournaments in Velva.
Stanley vs. DLB
The Blue Jays were on the road to face the DLB Lakers on Thursday, Dec. 4 in dual action with the Blue Jays claiming the 37 to 24 victory.
At 107 pounds, both teams were open.
At 114 pounds, Bo Johnson lost by fall at :57 to Brycen Hansen.
At 121 pounds, Chase Brown lost by fall at 5:33 to Wyatt Schaff.
At 127 pounds, Louden Haugen won by forfeit with DLB open.
At 133 pounds, Cohen Bell won by fall at 3:17 over Maverick Trowbridge.
At 139 pounds, Regan Gustafson won by forfeit with DLB open.
At 145 pounds, Brayden Fritel lost on a 13-8 decision to Easton Hansen.
At 152 pounds, Dane Dunham won by forfeit with DLB open.
At 160 pounds, Gage Mudderman won on a 6-1 decision over Jamison Nelson.
At 172 pounds, Kane Reep won on a 13-2 major decision over Jack Smith.
At 189 pounds, Colter Fladeland won by forfeit with DLB open.
At 215 pounds, Asher Batteiger lost by fall at 2:28 to Johnathan Smith.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran lost on a 7-2 decision to Braden Jundt.
Velva Tournaments
The Blue Jay wrestlers were in Velva on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6. The girls were in tournament action on Friday, varsity boys’ wrestlers were in action both days, and junior high wrestlers were in action on Saturday.
Girls Tournament
In the girls’ tournament on Friday, Harvey took home first place with 200 team points, followed by Carrington with 147, Williams County with 140, Rugby with 135 and Kenmare rounding out the top five with 94. Stanley finished in seventh with 69 team points.
Individual results were as follows:
At 118 pounds, Kimber Fritel took home first place. After a first and second round bye, she won her semifinal match by fall at :21 over Avery Jorstad of Williams County and her championship match by fall at :46 over River DeTienne of Stanley to claim the title.
At 118 pounds, River DeTienne placed second. After a first round bye, she won her quarterfinal match by fall at 2:30 over Addie Nelson of Kenmare and followed that up with a semifinal win by fall at 4:50 over Addi Mack of Rugby. In the championship match, she lost by fall at :46 to Kimber Fritel of Stanley to take second.
At 130 pounds, Justice Belstad won her first round match by fall at 2:00 over Emmalin Fraunfelter of Kenmare. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at 1:35 to Annalesia Bishop of Williams County. She came back to win in the next round by fall at :55 over Kymbree Green of Larimore, but lost her next match by fall at 1:51 to Amanda Aguilar of Stanley to end her tournament action.
At 130 pounds, Amanda Aguilar placed fifth. She lost her first match by fall at 2:46 to Sylvie Grove of Rugby. After a bye in the next round, she won her next match on a 7-4 decision over Lola Brewer of Carrington. She followed that up with a win by fall at 1:51 over Justice Belstad of Stanley. In the consolation semifinals, she lost by fall at 3:24 to Janai Roldan of Williams County. That sent her to the fifth place match where she won by fall at 4:40 over McKenzie Bohrer of Stanley.
At 130 pounds, McKenzie Bohrer placed sixth. After a first round bye, she won her quarterfinal match by fall at 1:22 over Lola Brewer of Carrington. In semifinals, she lost by fall at 2:24 to Annalesia Bishop of Williams County and lost her consolation semifinal match by fall at 5:27 to Aubrey Bartz of Harvey. In the fifth place match, she lost by fall at 4:40 to Amanda Aguilar of Stanley to take sixth.
At 136 pounds, Aubree Bunner placed fourth. She had a first round bye and then won her quarterfinal match by fall at 3:24 over Johanna Lang of Larimore. In semifinals, she lost by fall at 1:51 to Tenley Michel of Kenmare. She came back in the consolation semifinals to win by fall at 2:20 over McKenna Jones of Stanley. In the third place match, she lost by fall at :32 to Jaycelin Coronado of Linton-HMB to take fourth.
At 136 pounds, McKenna Jones placed fifth. She won her first round match by fall at 1:17 over Anna Albert of Kenmare, but lost her quarterfinal match on a 15-3 major decision to Chloe Bartz of Harvey. She came back to win her next match by fall at 1:00 over Isabella Slaubaugh of Rugby and followed that up with a win by fall at 1:29 over Kenzie Jost of Carrington. In the consolation semifinal, she lost by fall at 2:20 to Aubree Bunner of Stanley. In the fifth place match, she won by fall at 2:23 over Johanna Lang of Larimore to take fifth.
At 142 pounds, Natalia Rodriguez had a first round bye. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at 2:16 to Hadley Volk of Carrington. She came back to win her next match by fall at 1:39 over Jontay Iron Horse of White Shield. She lost her final match by fall at :24 to Courtney Slaubaugh of Rugby to end her tournament action.
At 155 pounds, Inaani Wilson had a first round bye. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at 1:26 to Opal Hackel of Rugby. After a bye in the next round, she lost her next match by fall at 1:29 to Bristol Fike of Harvey to end her tournament action.
At 155 pounds, JayVuani White Eagle had a bye in the first round. She lost her quarterfinal match by fall at :38 to Jayley Brugh of Watford City. After a bye in the next round, she lost her next match by fall at :37 to Kaylie Clingman of Williams County to end her tournament action.
A 190 pounds, Nevaeh White-shield placed fourth. She lost her first round match by fall at :23 to Maelyn Yellow Bird of Stanley and her next match by fall at :24 to Alyssa Quesada of Stanley. After a bye in the next round, she lost on a 17-8 major decision to Emory Williams of Kenmare to take fourth place.
At 190 pounds, Maelyn Yellow Bird placed second. She won her first round match by fall at :23 over Nevaeh Whiteshield of Stanley. She had a bye in the next round and then lost by fall at 1:11 to Emory Williams of Kenmare. She won her final match by fall at :27 over Alyssa Quesada of Stanley to take second place.
At 190 pounds, Alyssa Quesada placed third. After a first round bye, she won her next match by fall at :24 over Nevaeh Whiteshield of Stanley. She lost her next match by fall at 1:47 to Emory Williams of Kenmare and her final match by fall at :27 to Maelyn Yellow Bird of Stanley to take third.
Varsity Boys
In the Velva varsity boys’ tournament, Velva took home the team title with 295.5 points, followed by Williams County with 256.5, Bowman County/Beach with 246, Stanley with 245.5 and Carrington rounding out the top five with 217.

At 114 pounds, Bo Johnson placed sixth. After a bye in the first two rounds, he lost his quarterfinal match by fall at :31 to Mason Cook of Carrington. He had a bye in the next round and then won his match over James Berman of Velva by forfeit. In the consolation semifinal, he lost by fall at 1:13 to Jayden Kuntz of Killdeer. In the fifth place match, he lost by fall at :20 to Chase Brown of Stanley to take sixth.
At 114 pounds, Chase Brown placed fifth. After a bye in the first two rounds, he lost his quarterfinal match on an 18-0 tech fall to Jace Boynton of Bowman County/Beach. After a bye, he won his next match by fall at 3:35 over Carson Placek of Williams County. In consolation semifinals, he lost by fall at 3:37 to Mason Cook of Carrington. In the fifth place match, he won by fall at :20 over Bo Johnson.
At 127 pounds, Louden Haugen claimed the championship. After a first round bye, he won his next match by fall at 2:26 over Hudson Snyder of Larimore. He followed that up with a 17-0 tech fall win over Brody Ptacek of Linton-HMB in quarterfinals. He won his semifinal match on a medical forfeit by Pitch Hager of Velva. In the championship match, he won on a 17-10 decision over Skye Kramlich of Carrington to claim first.
At 133 pounds, Cohen Bell claimed the championship. After a first round bye, he won his first match on an 18-3 tech fall over Malakai Wendlandt of Watford City. In quarterfinals, he won on a 19-3 tech fall over James Jespersen of Williams County. He took home the semifinal win on a 12-3 major decision over Paul Melin of Kenmare. In the championship match, he won on a 13-9 decision over Corban Sorenson of Watford City to take the title.
At 139 pounds, Regan Gustafson placed sixth. After a first round bye, he won his next match by fall at 1:51 over Estevan Rubio of Williams County. He lost his quarterfinal match on a 4-2 decision to Cale Schwartz of Bowman County/Beach. He came back to win his next match by fall at :35 over Kroy Fitzpatrick of Killdeer and followed that up with a win by fall over Isaac Sattler of Rugby at 1:17. In consolation semifinals, he lost on an injury default at 4:34 to Lucas Soli of Velva and then medical forfeited his fifth place match to Jaxon Wilson of Carrington to take sixth.
At 145 pounds, Brayden Fritel placed third. After a first round bye, he won his first match over Peace Weber of White Shield on a 17-4 major decision. He lost his quarterfinal match by fall at 1:38 of Levi Jensen of Williams County. He came back to win by fall at 1:50 over Cade Gustafson of Northern Lights and on a 15-0 tech fall over Austin Davis of Kenmare. In consolation semifinals, he won in sudden victory overtime over Carson Brunelle of Williams with a score of 8-5. In the third place match, he won on an 8-5 decision over Kallen Wolsky of Carrington to take third.
At 152 pounds, Dane Dunham placed fourth. After a first round bye, he won by fall at :33 over Boston Johnson of Watford City. In quarterfinals, he lost by fall at 58 to Jeremiah Schmidt of Williams County. He came back to win his next match by fall at 3:13 over Koda Jeanotte of Northern Lights and then won by forfeit over Tavin Skalicky of Williams County. In consolation semifinals, he won on a 7-1 decision over Daniel Hoff of Bowman County/Beach. In the third place match, he lost on a 16-1 tech fall to Kingston Brunelle of White Shield to take fourth place.
At 160 pounds, Gage Mudderman had a first round bye. He lost his match by fall at 2:55 to Will Langford of Watford City. After a bye in the next round, he lost on a 6-5 decision to Channing Davis of Northern Lights to end his tournament action.
At 172 pounds, Kane Reep placed fourth. After a first round bye, he won on a 16-0 tech fall over Bryson Schiele of Velva. He won his quarterfinal match on a 13-4 major decision over Walker Sheldon of Williams County. In semifinals, he lost by fall at 1:44 to Sawyer Noll of Bowman County/Beach. He won his consolation semifinal by fall at 3:18 over Haden Thormahlen of Killdeer. In the third place match, he lost on a 6-0 decision to Zane Wagoner of Watford City to take fourth.
At 189 pounds, Colter Fladeland placed fourth. After a bye in both the first and second rounds, he won his quarterfinal match by fall at 3:55 over Pius Wangler of Rugby. In semifinals, he lost on a 6-0 decision to Noah Werner of Velva. He came back to win the consolation semifinal match on a 10-8 decision over Alexander Sola of Velva. In the third place match, he lost by fall at 5:24 to Brennin Thuesen of Williams County to take fourth.
At 215 pounds, Asher Batteiger placed fourth. After a first round bye, he won his first match by fall at 1:33 over Oxley Adams of Watford City and followed that up with a 12-4 major decision win in quarterfinals over Jacob Hinrichs of Carrington. In semifinals, he lost by fall at 2:42 to Jayden Foss of Velva. He came back to win the consolation semifinal by fall at 3:29 over Jace Getz of Bowman County/Beach. In the third place match, he lost by fall at 1:32 to Jacob Hinrichs of Carrington to take fourth.
At 285 pounds, Levi Uran placed sixth. After a first round bye, he won by fall a 1:00 over Beau Hovland Watford City and followed that up with a quarterfinal win by fall at 3:47 over Kirby Freeman of Watford City. In semifinals, he lost by injury default to Tucker Timm of Kenmare. He then medical forfeited his consolation semifinal to Rylan Bercier of Northern Lights and his fifth place match to Kirby Freeman of Carrington to place sixth.
Junior High
Junior high wrestlers took to the mat in Velva on Saturday, Dec. 6. Team scores were not available for this tournament.
In the sixth grade 76-81 class, Slade Stout took first place. He won his first match by fall at :47 over Knox Abrahamson of Northern Lights and his final match by an 18-1 tech fall over Jeremy Schaefer of DLB.
In the sixth grade 120-130 class, Brant Sorenson placed first. He won his first match by fall at 1:11 over Bode Long of Velva and his second match by fall at 2:16 over Colt Lawlar of Watford City.
In the sixth grade 151-159 class, Annabelle Bunner placed second. She won her first round match by fall at 2:43 over Henry Fitzpatrick of Bishop Ryan and lost her second match by fall at 2:11 to Klay Lemer of Harvey-Wells County.
In the junior high 118-122 class, Trent Bohrer placed fourth. He lost his first round match by fall at :50 to Clayton Keeler of Watford City and his next match by fall at :29 to Oliver Lovell of Bowman County/Beach. He won his next match on a 10-0 major decision over Gavin Schmaltz of Velva and lost his last match by fall at :25 to Jace Heinrich of Velva.
In the junior high 135-150 class, Anthony Nardacci placed second. He won his first round match by fall at 2:01 over Caleb Diaz of Velva, but lost his next match by fall at 1:16 to Gage Morgan of Williams County. He won his last match by fall at 2:01 over Carter Sommer of Harvey-Wells County.
In the junior high 164-171 class, Briggs Lund placed third. He won his first round match by fall at 2:51 over Jackson Engebretson of Harvey-Wells County. He lost his next match by fall at 2:37 to Tait Kvamme of Velva and his final match by fall at :56 to Thatcher Davis of Williams County.
In the junior high 200-211 class, Coda Fladeland placed second. He won his first round match by fall at 1:26 over Jacob Krenzel of Harvey-Wells County. He lost his next match by fall at 2:30 to Nehemiah Turnbow of DLB, but came back to win his last match by fall at 2:40 over Jayden Odden of Rugby.
