Blue Jays Drop Opener To New Town

Stanley’s varsity boys’ basketball team opened their season at home on Friday, Dec. 12, hosting the New Town Eagles. The Eagles came out on top claiming the 68 to 34 victory.
Head coach Kory Anderson said, “Credit to New Town, they were aggressive and took advantage of our issues with ball security. I thought New Town gave us a couple of opportunities to keep the game close, but we didn’t execute well enough. We know what we need to work on. The boys have been practicing hard, and I know they are up for the challenge.”
As a team, the Blue Jays converted 9 of their 33 field goal attempts, including 7 of 24 two point and 2 of 9 three point attempts. They made 12 of their 16 free throw attempts. They pulled down 5 offensive and 17 defensive rebounds. They had 2 assists, 1 block and 2 steals. They committed 20 turnovers.
Austin Kanenwisher led the team with 12 points, followed by Jevon Johnson with 7, Ashton Peterson and Landon Goettle with 4 each, Tyke Barstad with 3 and Landon Hunting with 2.
Ashton Peterson had 8 rebounds, followed by Landon Hunting with 4, Austin Kanenwisher and Landon Goettle with 3 each, Jevon Johnson with 2, and Zeke Wienbar and Tyke Barstad with 1 each.
Jevon Johnson had the team’s two assists and one block.
Tyke Barstad and Jevon Johnson each had one steal.
Up Next: After traveling to Killdeer on Tuesday, Dec. 17, the Blue Jays next action will be over the Christmas break when they face TGU at the Minot State University Dome on Saturday, Dec. 27.
