Blue Jay Girls Split Games

Stanley’s varsity girls’ basketball team had two games on their schedule last week. On Monday, Jan. 5, they traveled to Beulah, posting the 52 to 46 victory over the Miners. On Saturday, Jan. 10, they were in Dickinson playing South Heart. The Blue Jays dropped that game by a score of 41 to 45.

Stanley vs. Beulah
On the road on Monday, Jan. 5, the Blue Jays met up with the Beulah Miners. Beulah held a three point lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Blue Jays came back in the second quarter to take a four point lead at the half. While Beulah would cut into the lead in the third quarter, it would not be enough as Stanley went on to claim the 52-46 win.
Head coach Kendell Hunt said, “I’m proud of how our girls competed against Beulah. We brought great physicality on both ends. That aggression got us to the free throw line repeatedly, and we knocked them down when it counted. We also turned their mistakes into points by scoring off turnovers in transition. The highlight to me was our situational awareness down the stretch. We stayed poised, managed the game, and got the stops we needed.”
Kennedi Murphy led the team with 18 points, followed by Annie Roise with 12, Taya Niemitalo with 9, Payton Lystad with 6, CeeJay Bohmbach with 4, Kiplee Nordloef with 2 and Evy Davis with 1.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, the Blue Jay girls traveled to Dickinson to face South Heart. South Heart outscored Stanley by six in the second half to take the 45 to 41 victory.
Head coach Kendell Hunt said, “We struggled to secure defensive rebounds and gave them too many second chance opportunities. South Heart was flying around pressuring us off the arc, rotated effectively and played good help side defense.”
