Blue Jay Girls Season Ends At Regions

Stanley’s varsity girls’ basketball team entered the region tournament at the Minot State University Dome on Monday, Feb. 24 as the number eight seed and faced number one South Prairie-Max in the first round.
The Royals came out and took a 24 point lead at the end of the first quarter, extending it to 34 at the half on their way to the 85 to 44 victory.
Looking at his team’s season, head coach Kendell Hunt said, “From day one to the final whistle, our players showed real growth. We faced some tough challenges and didn’t always get the results we wanted on the scoreboard, but the effort, resilience and the character of our players left me proud. A big thanks to our families, fans, and community for all your support. I can’t wait to see what this group does next season.”
As a team, the Blue Jays made 12 of their 32 two point and 5 of their 16 three point attempts. They converted 5 of their 9 free throw attempts. That compared to 22 of their 51 two point and 9 of their 19 three point attempts for South Prairie-Max. They made 14 of their 17 free throw attempts.
Stanley had 14 offensive and 22 defensive rebounds. They had 8 assists and 7 steals. They committed 31 turnovers. South Prairie-Max had 18 offensive and 19 defensive rebounds, 18 assists, 5 blocks and 25 steals. They committed 10 turnovers.
Annie Roise led the team with 15 points, followed by Kiplee Nordloef with 11, Taya Niemitalo with 7, CeeJay Bohmbach with 6, and Payton Lystad with 5.
Annie Roise had 10 rebounds, followed by Payton Lystad and Kiplee Nordloef with 6 each, Taya Niemitalo, Evy Davis and Teigan Moe with 2 each, and CeeJay Bohmbach and Kennedi Murphy with 1 each.
Taya Niemitalo had 5 assists, followed by Annie Roise, Evy Davis and Maycee Copeland with 1 each.
Taya Niemitalo had 3 steals, followed by Jacee Johnson with 2, and Kennedi Murphy and Evy Davis with 1 each.
