Blue Jay Boys Team Drops Two Games

Blue Jay Boys Team Drops Two Games

Stanley’s varsity boys’ basketball team had two games on their schedule last week. They hosted Hazen on Tuesday, Jan. 27, dropping the game with a score of 27 to 74. On Thursday, Jan. 29, they hosted Nedrose, dropping the game with a score of 58 to 73.
Stanley vs. Hazen
At home on Tuesday, Jan. 27, the Blue Jays hosted Hazen. Hazen got out to a fast start, holding the Blue Jays to just three first half points on their way to the 74 to 27 victory.
Head coach Kory Anderson said, “Hazen was too much physically for us on Tuesday. They jumped out to a big lead at the half as we only scored 3 points in the first half. This was a combination of their skill and our lack of aggression and poise on offense. It gave us a perfect picture of where we are as a program and how much time we need to put in during the offseason. I was proud of the boys for not giving up and fighting the second half.”
As a team, Stanley made 10 of their 27 two point and 2 of their 14 three point attempts. They converted 1 of their 4 free throw attempts. That compared to 19 of 28 two point, 11 of 27 three point and 3 of 3 free throw attempts for the Bison.
The Blue Jays had 4 offensive and 17 defensive rebounds, compared to 6 offensive and 27 defensive boards for Hazen. Stanley had 2 assists and 7 steals, while committing 23 turnovers. Hazen had 19 assists, 14 steals, 1 block and committed 12 turnovers.
Austin Kanenwisher led the team with 11 points, followed by Tyke Barstad with 8 and Larson Fjeldahl and Jevon Johnson with 4 each.

Stanley vs. Nedrose
At home again on Thursday, Jan. 29, Stanley was host to the Nedrose Cardinals. The Blue Jays trailed by eight at the end of the first quarter, but Nedrose used a strong second quarter to take the 52 to 28 lead into the half. While the Blue Jays made a run in the fourth quarter, it was not enough as Nedrose claimed the 73 to 58 win.
Head coach Anderson said, “Both teams jumped out of the gates with high scoring in the first quarter. However, Nedrose scored 29 points the first quarter and, as a team and program, we all agreed that that was far too much for that team. At half time we talked about our defense and the lack of effort/ pride we were showing on that end. We were able to win the second half and cut into their lead but the first half was too big of a hole for us to get out of.”
Anderson also said, “The boys continue to work hard at practice and have not shown signs of quit. Parents would be proud of their efforts. We continue to work on all aspects of the game to try to close the gap between us and our opponents.”
As a team, Stanley made 17 of their 31 two point and 6 of their 24 three point attempts. They converted 6 of their 10 free throw attempts. Nedrose made 25 of their 36 two point, 4 of their 22 three point, and 11 of their 14 free throw attempts.
The Blue Jays pulled down 9 offensive and 16 defensive rebounds. They had 11 assists, 8 steals, 1 block and committed 15 turnovers. The Cardinals had 11 offensive and 24 defensive rebounds, 19 assists, 11 steals, 1 block and committed 13 turnovers.
