Blue Jay Boys Drop Three

Stanley’s varsity boys’ basketball team had a busy week with three games on their schedule. They traveled to Watford City on Tuesday, Jan. 6, losing the game by a score of 34 to 78. On Friday, Jan. 9, they hosted Standing Rock, losing by a score of 46 to 63. On Saturday, Jan. 10 they were in Dickinson, facing the Trinity Titans, losing by a score of 22 to 63.
Stanley vs. Watford City
The Blue Jays were on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 6 to face the Watford City Wolves. The Wolves held a seven point lead at the end of the first quarter, extending their lead to 19 at the half on their way to the 78 to 34 win.
As a team, Stanley made 10 of their 25 two point and 3 of their 17 three point attempts. They converted 5 of their 12 free throws. That compared to 22 of 35 two point, 9 of 23 three point and 7 of 12 free throw attempts for Watford City.
The Blue Jays pulled down 7 offensive and 16 defensive boards. They had 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks. They committed 17 turnovers. That compared to 10 offensive and 25 defensive rebounds, 20 assists, 13 steals, 2 blocks and 6 turnovers for the Wolves.
Jevon Johnson led the team with 10 points, followed by Ashton Peterson with 9, Austin Kanenwisher with 8, Landon Hunting with 4, Landon Goettle with 2 and Zeke Wienbar with 1.
Austin Kanenwisher and Jevon Johnson each had 4 rebounds, followed by Ashton Peterson with 3, Landon Hunting, Tyke Barstad and Landon Goettle with 2 each, and Zeke Wienbar with 1.

Jevon Johnson had the team’s one steal.

Stanley vs. Standing Rock
Stanley was at home on Friday, Jan. 9, hosting the Standing Rock Warriors. While Standing Rock got out to a 20 to 4 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Blue Jays cut the lead to seven at the half. It would not be enough as the Warriors went on to the 63 to 46 victory.
Austin Kanenwisher led the team with 18 points, followed by Jevon Johnson with 14, Ashton Peterson with 11 and Tyke Barstad with 3.

Stanley vs. Trinity
In their final game of the week, Stanley traveled to Dickinson to face the Dickinson Trinity Titans on Saturday, Jan. 10. This game was all Titans as they held the Blue Jays to just 12 first half points, while putting up 38 on their way to the 68 to 22 victory.
Austin Kanenwisher led the team with 10 points, followed by Ashton Peterson with 8, and Jevon Johnson and Landon Goettle with 2 each.
