North Dakota Community Foundation Grants $11.1 Million In 2025
The North Dakota Community Foundation (NDCF) has announced that it awarded more than $11 million in grants in 2025. The organization was founded 50 years ago to improve the quality of life of North Dakotans through charitable giving and promoting philanthropy.
Most of NDCF’s assets are in endowment funds, providing permanent grant dollars to North Dakota communities, schools, students, and nonprofit organizations. NDCF currently manages more than 1,000 charitable funds, including 73 local community foundations in the state and over 200 scholarship funds for North Dakota students. It also administers organizational endowment funds, donor-advised funds, school foundations, and special interest funds for individuals and nonprofit organizations across North Dakota.
NDCF ended 2025 with $188 million in total assets. Most of NDCF’s assets are in endowment funds, providing permanent grant dollars to North Dakota communities, schools, and nonprofit organizations. The organization has awarded more than $134 million in grants and charitable program expenses since its inception in 1976. NDCF has offices in Bismarck, Larimore, Dickinson, and Wahpeton, North Dakota.
Some of the community foundations at NDCF in this area of the state are the: Tioga Community Foundation; Stanley Area Community Foundation; McKenzie County Community Foundation; Parshall Area Community Foundation; Williston Area Community Foundation; and Powers Lake Community Foundation.
The Tioga Community Foundation was established in 2001 and had assets at the end of 2025 of $698,759. It has awarded eighty grants since its inception, totaling more than $97,000. Numerous local organizations have received grants from the fund including the Tioga Community Library, Tioga Public Schools, Tioga Senior Citizens, and the Tioga Medical Center.
The Stanley Area Community Foundation was established in 2008 and had total assets at the end of 2025 of $3,273,926. The fund has made 106 grants to date totaling more than $812,000 to a variety of organizations including Stanley Public Schools, the Mountrail County Health Foundation, the Flickertail Village & Museum, the Golden Age Club of Stanley, the Blue Jay Boosters, the Van Hook Association, Prairie Rose Golf Course, and the Sibyl Center for Life Enrichment.
The McKenzie County Community Foundation was established in 2010 and had $981,554 in assets at the end of 2025. It has awarded 95 grants totaling more than $242,000 to area nonprofits, including the Pioneer Museum of McKenzie County, the Arnegard Rural Fire Department, Long X Arts Foundation, Bakken Oil Rush Ministry, Save the Maah Daah Hey, and the Keene Volunteer Fire Department.
The Parshall Area Community Foundation was established in 2011 and had assets of $411,072 by the end of 2025. The fund has awarded 56 grants totaling more than $113,000 since its inception. Grantees have included Parshall Schools, Parshall 2000, Inc., the Parshall Senior Citizen’s Golden Jet Set, the Parshall Park Board, and the Paul Broste Rock Museum.
The Williston Area Community Foundation was established in late 2014 and has assets of $117,664. The fund, in conjunction with the Christensen Family Charitable Fund, has awarded eighteen grants totaling more than $27,000.
The Powers Lake Community Foundation was established in 2019 and finished the year with $266,641 in total assets. It has awarded eleven grants totaling more than $10,000 since its inception to several local organizations including the Powers Lake Food Pantry, Lil Ranchers CCC, Powers Lake School, and the Powers Lake Recreation Commission.
All of NDCF’s community endowment funds are guided by advisory committees made up of local volunteers who are responsible for fundraising to help grow their endowment fund and who recommend grant awards every year. All gifts to community endowment funds are tax deductible. In addition, individuals who donate at least $5,000 and businesses that donate any amount to a community endowment fund at NDCF may be eligible for the forty percent ND state tax credit.
