Mountrail Pioneers 4-H Club Hosts Dairy Goat Clinic

The Mountrail Pioneers 4-H Club hosted a Dairy Goat Showmanship clinic on Saturday June 14, 2025.
Will Bachmeier was the dairy goat expert and judge for the day. Will shared his expertise on dairy goat showmanship with the youth. Will is an amazing coach and shared his knowledge with the kids and gave them hands on practice with their animals in the show ring.
Nineteen youth from eight different 4-H clubs across North Dakota attended the event with their goats. The morning was spent listening and learning to Will Bachmeier talk about prepping the goats for show, show supplies, grooming, trimming, and key points the judges are looking for in the show ring. Will provided the youth with an information booklet. The youth then brought their goats into the arena to practice walking, turning, and posing their animals and how to follow a judge’s direction.
The afternoon was spent in the show ring with a showmanship competition. We had four divisions by age groups Cloverbud, Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors. Prizes were awarded for Grand Champion and Reserve Champion places. Grand Champion prizes: mobile storage case to hold show gear and a garment bag to keep and carry show clothing. Reserve Champion prizes: water bucket, hay feeder, and a garment bag for show clothes.
