Mountrail County Horse Judging Contest Held

On Saturday, March 28th, Mountrail County hosted a Horse Judging Contest at the Fair Building in Stanley. Students and adults had the opportunity to judge two Halter classes of Belgian and Miniature Geldings. Performance classes included: Hunt Seat Equitation, Ranch Riding, Ranch Rail, Reining, Western Horsemanship, and Ranch Trail. Students were asked to give oral reasons on the Belgian Geldings and Ranch Rail.
Twelve judging teams traveled from across the state to participate in the contest as well as five adults. The Adult category was a new addition this year and was a great opportunity for them to test their skills, grow knowledge for hosting events, or to practice for certification.
Awards were given to the top three Teams and Individuals in Halter, Performance, Reasons, and Overall. Mountrail County had two teams participate. Tylada Nichols, Addison Enerson, Keylie Sem, and Aniyah Honrud placed 4th as a team. Lizzie Wolter, Lynnea Harwood, Kinsey Woodbury, and Ashlyn Woodbury placed 6th as a team. Several students were in the top ten in several categories.
We want to thank all the teams for attending our contest and doing an excellent job! We want to give a special thank you to those who traveled to help make this contest happen. Our official Judges Committee: Kristen Gonsoir, Paige Brummund, and Logan Lapica. Thank you to our riders: Kami Guty, Chad and Rowan Flach, Joni Hauge, Brit Faulkner, Carrie Marschner, Jules Stenson, Josie Ledahl, and Gina Steele. Also, thank you to Kris and Chris Kubal for providing the Belgians and Minis for the Halter classes. We sincerely appreciate your willingness to volunteer your time to help make this event a success. Other volunteers included Sarah Brewer, Katie Steele, Julie Woodbury, and parents that helped with the meal. Thank you for filling in where needed.
The contest also offered the opportunity for students to practice their Horse related Speeches and Illustrated Talks. We had six participants including three from Mountrail County, Addison Enerson, “Grasping the Digestive Tract”; Keylie Sem, “The Mane Event, Millions of Years in the Making”; and Addison Enerson and Aniyah Honrud, “The process of DSLD”.
Event hosts, Katie Woodbury and Ilene Enerson are grateful to all those involved in making this event a success.
