Home And Garden Show Returns This Weekend

Home And Garden Show Returns This Weekend

The Mountrail County Garden Club and NDSU Extension Service Mountrail County are bringing the ninth annual home and garden show back to the Mountrail County South Complex and Mountrail County Fair Building this weekend. The event will be held over two days again, with the change made after the first year due to the overwhelming participation from the public and vendors.
Events will start at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 25 and run until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 26 will start at 9:00 a.m. and run through 2:00 p.m. Both days will be filled with vendors for both home and garden projects, as well as direct sales and craft/homemade items. Vendor booths will fill both buildings and some may have outside booths in the spaces between the buildings.

There will be a number of workshops and activities scheduled during the Home and Garden show for both adults and kids.
On Friday, there will be a workshop on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on making sourdough bread. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. you can learn how to make gazing balls/garden globes.
On Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m., sessions start with Backyard Chickens 101. That will be followed from 11 to noon as you can learn to unlock the secrets of African Violet Propagation. The final seminar will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. on getting a feel for your garden soil. You will learn about soil texture, testing and working with your soil.
Returning this year will be the 4-H Project Expo and Clothing Revue on Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m. The Project Expo gives 4-H’ers a chance to show off their informational skills. The 4-H Clothing Revue starts at 10 a.m. and features participants who are judged on their choices of what they have either made themselves or bought and improved.
Many vendors have signed up for this year’s show. There will be some homebased businesses, as well as homemade items. There will be lawn equipment, landscaping, woodwork, furniture, windows and siding, garden art and outside gardening items, and more. There will be food served at both buildings as well.
This Home and Garden Show is just one of the projects the Mountrail County Garden Club helps with throughout the community. Those include a community garden, the Main Street flower barrel plantings, landscaping around the Stanley Signs, the Butterfly Garden south of the Fair Building and the Farmer’s Market.
Whether you have just a couple of hours to spend or you want to be there for the full two days, the Mountrail County Home and Garden Show has something for everyone. Be sure to check it out. For more information you can contact the NDSU Extension Service Mountrail County at 628-2835.
