Bohmbach Wins Big At Junior NRF

In his last year of eligibility for the Junior National Rodeo Finals, Trey Bohmbach of Stanley took home the 2025 Ote Berry’s Junior Steer Wrestling World Championship 10-steer average champion title. He was 48.3 on 10 steers and won $15,750 for that distinction.
The championship takes the top twenty-four in the standings for the year with Bohmbach earning points at North Platte, NE; Dupree, SD; Killdeer, ND and his high school state points also counted. He entered the competition sixteenth in the standings.
In addition to taking that average championship, he also placed in several of the rounds, earning additional payouts. He also won a saddle, buckles and a Yeti cooler.
Winning that average came with consistency and he also admits being able to avoid a couple of tough steers including in the fifth, seventh and ninth round where those steer left the cowboy with no scores.
The Junior NFR was held at the convention center in Las Vegas, but Trey along with his dad, Jed, were able to check out the NFR thanks to the generosity of Ray and Angela Schepp and the Corral Supply crew.
Trey is grateful to the sponsors that helped make this championship competition possible including Jeff and Eva Hepper, Curt and Summer Meyer, Out West Express and Corral Supply. He says it would not be possible without having people in his corner wanting to help out with the expenses.
When he looks back at this experience, he says that it was great having his grandpa ride with him to Las Vegas and having his dad there the whole time. Two of his favorite parts of the trip were that ride and having his dad hazing for him during competition. He also smiles when he says that he was happy to still be able to compete in this rodeo on the same horse he got as a freshman in high school. He is also grateful for all the friends that were in his corner cheering him on every day.
While his goal is to hopefully make it to the big ring at the NRF some day, he says that takes a lot of support from everyone around him and will take a lot of hard work.
After wrapping up in Las Vegas, Bohmbach made a trip to Denver for a qualifier for the stock show rodeo there. He also has a trip to Odessa, TX coming up. He will spend the next few months hitting the circuit before heading back to college in March.
He’s planning to hit some winter rodeos and see how that goes, while also planning to still do some of the circuit rodeos this summer.
Bohmbach attends college in Gillette, WY, where he is part of their college rodeo team. He says that the college has great facilities. The rodeo team members spend most of their time roping and in the barn every day, including taking their online courses in the barn. He says that while he missed the circuit finals this year in college, he was still placing in the top five this year and second in the all-around.
