Automatic Burn Ban In Effect In Mountrail County

Automatic Burn Ban In Effect In Mountrail County

The Board of County Commissioners adopted an updated Fire Disaster Declaration and Automatic Burn Ban policy on Tuesday, Mar. 19.
A burn ban will be in place with no open burning permitted whenever the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger Rating is in the High, Very High, or Extreme Rating and/or a Red Flag warning has been issued for Mountrail County. It is the public’s responsibility to check weather conditions before burning. Weather and fire index information can be obtained at www.ndresponse.gov/burn-restrictions-fire-danger-maps or by calling the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Department at 701-628-2975 any time.
The ban says that Mountrail County has and is expected to continue to endure periods of dry conditions with significant vegetative fuels available. It continues that all available resources remain committed to protecting life and property. Mountrail County has either sustained or been threatened with rural fires in the past and the local Emergency Management Office has been in consultation with local fire departments. The impact of fires could threaten the health, well-being, and safety of citizens in the county and the cost of response, the inordinate equipment wear and fire damages may be beyond available County resources.

The Fire Disaster Declaration and Automatic Burn Ban prohibits any open burning (including a ban on the ignition of fireworks, garbage burning and campfires) to remain in effect until further notice whenever the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger Rating is designated High, Very High or Extreme Status and/or a Red Flag Warning has been issued for Mountrail County. Additionally, burning will be allowed in designated areas with Low or Moderate Fire Danger Rating upon approval of the local fire response authority that has jurisdiction over the designated area.
