Just My Opinion - By Mary Kilen

The Weather Rollercoaster
As I write my column on Monday, I’m just stuck agreeing with the weatherman who said we were set for some weather whiplash. It was a beautiful afternoon. The sun was shining and felt glorious when I went outside for a break. By late afternoon, however, the clouds were rolling in and it was cooling off in a hurry.
After listening to the weather the last few days, I know that I’m not going to enjoy going to work on Tuesday morning. There is going to be nothing enjoyable about the day. But it is supposed to be short lived. After all, it’s going to be back up to nearly 50 on Thursday.
Then I watched the forecast for the weekend. Apparently, it is going to cool off again with chances for snow again as we go into the start of next week.
It’s that time of year where you need to be prepared for all of the seasons in one week, sometimes even in the same day.
So many of my friends shared a Facebook post this week from Funny Thoughts and Jokes that absolutely sums up our recent weather. It reads, “I’m ready for the rest of this week! I have my umbrella, my flip flops, my mittens, my suntan lotion, my winter coat, my sunglasses, my thermals, my iced tea and my hot chocolate!”
The weird weather we’ve had this winter has my perennials confused. They were turning green and showing new growth earlier this month already. It is way too early for that. I’m not sure what that will mean for their growth and health this year. Usually, I’m out in my flowerbeds in late April or early May cleaning out the last growing season. At this rate, I’ll have plenty of fresh greenery in my flowerbeds way ahead of schedule. If there’s a bright point to that it is that I will know if I need to replace any of them while there is still lots of selection in the greenhouses.
